(Castro Daire – May 2, 2018) – Team Trek-Selle San Marco Tonello had a very tough day at Portugal Mtb, losing the leadership but ending the first stage in fourth place ahead of their Trek-Selle San Marco teammates, who were fifth. Fabian Rabensteiner and Michele Casagrande could not keep the pace of the winnind duo Becking-Ferreira and finished 8’52” behind them, after 79 km and 1.850 mt. climbing.
“It was hard today, we both felt not at the top” said Casagrande “Also the route didn’t suit us, with just few technical sectors. Anyway we will try to recover and do our best in the next stages”. Damiano Ferraro and Andrea Righettini were just behind, with a gap of 11’35”. “We had a small problem after the start” said Ferraro “but after that we gained some positions, even if it was clear that we couldn’t stay with the leaders”. Tomorrow second stage, from Castro Daire to Sao Pedro Sul: 86.5 kms with 2.500 mt. climbing.
