Promising young BMX riders from four continents started a long-term high level training course at the World Cycling Centre (WCC) in Aigle, Switzerland, this week.
Under the watchful eye and guidance of UCI BMX Coach Thomas Allier, the group of young and largely untapped talent will train for more than four months at the WCC. During this time they will compete in several European races and work towards their ultimate goal: the UCI BMX World Championships to be held in Pietermaritzburg (RSA) from the 29th July to 1st August. The six athletes (four male and two female) who arrived in Aigle this week are aged between 16 and 18 and come from South Africa, Bolivia, Japan, Slovakia and Brazil. Over the next few weeks they will be joined by another four athletes. Spotted as a result of their performances at continental and international races, the athletes will work with two-time World Champion Thomas Allier, who is keen to help them realise their full potential. "They already have a certain level but there is room for development. Most of them lack the necessary coaching and training facilities in their own countries. Some will be going from three training sessions a week, to two training sessions a day. It is going to be a big change," he said. During the first part of the course, they riders will develop a solid base. Their training will not be confined to the WCC's Supercross track, but will include sessions of road cycling, track cycling and gym work. The training will be punctuated by one race each month, notably several rounds of the European Championships. "Nearer their goal the training sessions will be more specific. But we must wait and see how they progress and change our plans accordingly," explains Thomas Allier. ... |

Many roosters in the yard and only one could climb to the top of the podium of the decline of Sant Andreu. The stakes were very open. There were doubts to know what would be the performance of last year's winner, David Vazquez (MSC), which would be the response of the great Cedric Gracia with its new brand (Santa Cruz) and new team (FCO Team), about the way come members of the team XMS Devinci (local Pasqual Canals, Antonio Ferreiro and new signing this season, Arnau Sugrañés), and the speed they were capable of claiming both team riders Massi, Ivan Oulego and, above all, Bernat Guàrdia. Berni -the best spanish downhill last season- never won so far in elite category in Sant Andreu. The circuit was more aligned than ever to its... |
