Once again, Jaroslav Kulhavy has been the strongest protagonist of Cyprus Sunshine Cup series
In the second round of Afxentia series, which crossed the Macheras Mountains in Cyprus, Jaroslav Kulhavy has been once again the strongest protagonist of the series, preceding Emil Lindgren and Jan Skarnitzl in the 41 km long Point-to-Point race. Thanks to this excellent performance, Kulhavy wears the leader's jersey. Considering the Open Women race, Annika Langvad dominated preceding Elisabeth Brandau and Alexandra Engen. Langvad provisionally leads the overall ranking.

The first half of the race across the Macheras Mountains was characterised by a bloody duel. Suddenly Nicola Rohrbach punctured and Jaroslav Kulhavy (Rubena Birell Specialized) leaded the race.
Sweden Emil Lindgren (Rabobank-Giant Offroad Team) unsuccessfully tried to re-connect.
Despite of the rain in the last half of the race, Kulhavy continued to perform well. "In the first uphill, Kulhavy was stronger than me" Lindgren said at the finish line. Cyprus Sunshine Cup's first round winner Jan Skarnitzl completed the podium.
In the half part of the race, World Champion Roel Paulissen (Cannondale) was in the leading group but sudden backache forced him to reduce the rhythm and his performance worse. Belgian Champion ended at the 5th place, preceding Jiri Friedl (Merida).
Let's also remember Asian Champion Kohei Yamamoto, who ended at the 6th place. This result represents his best performance in the Cyprus Sunshine Cup series.

At the eve of the Cross Country race scheduled next Sunday, Kulhavy leads the overall ranking. Lindgren and Skarnitzl are provisional at 2nd and 3rd place, but everything could still change.
Jaroslav Kulhavy: "These races didn't fit on me, but I felt well and performed greatly. This victory means a lot for me, because my training program continues perfectly. I know, I could get some important results in this season".

Emil Lindgren: 'Jaroslav was stronger than me in the first part of the race, but I did a great job. He attacked nearby the first feed zone. When I faced off the uphill single track, my gap increased. In the downhill section, I lost 10 more seconds. In any case, I feel even better".

Jan Skarnitzl: 'I lost my bottle in the first feed zone. I tried to compete besides Emil but he was stronger than me. I did a good job".

Stevkova and Anishova's bad day
In the Open Women race, Annika Langvad (HMTBK) showed that she want to fight for her orange jersey, which usually represents the leadership of the Cyprus Sunshine Cup's overall ranking. The TT didn't feet on her technical attitudes, but she was able to defeat her strong antagonist, Elisabeth Brandau (Haibike), when both of them were completing half of the race.

Langvad preceded Brandau, while Sweden Alexandra Engen (Rothaus-Cube) completed the podium.
Janka Stevkova (CPEpic-Dohnany) punctured when she was in the 3rd place preceding Engen. Her huge gap (10'02") is the worst element for her interest in the overall ranking.
Ekaterina Anishova (Primorsky District) punctured when she was in the 5th place. " I had to run for 5 km, carrying my bike by hand". She ended at the 19th place with a huge gap (42'04").

Langvad leads the overall ranking, preceding for 2'53" Brandau and for 7'27" Engen. Next Sunday she could win the overall ranking of the Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2010 series.

Annika Langvad: 'It was amazing. I didn't know if Elisabeth could be strong enough. At the beginning of the race, my tactic was based on a paired performance. Then I take a little advantage on her in the uphill section".

Elisabeth Brandau: 'I didn't train very well in this period. I'm very satisfied about his 2nd place".

Alexandra Engen: 'I'm very happy about this result, because I felt better than the other days. I started badly in 6th or 7th place. Melanie Spaeth supported me. Janka was preceding me, but when she punctured, I overcame her. Let's look at the next race, which is scheduled next Sunday. At this moment, the most important thing is to complete my training program".
