MTB Master World Championships: welcome to Balneario Camboriu
This city was chosen because represents many good characteristics. It's a tourist city, full of people from everywhere. In January and February, it has many tourists and the population gets three times bigger. Balneário Camboriú has a great structure to receive you and your family. This city is localized in latitude 26º 59' 26' S and longitude 48º 38' 30' W GR, it is about 2 meters above the Atlantic Ocean level.
The population is around 75 thousand people and it is the largest tourist attraction in Southern Brazil, boasting over 1 million tourists per season.
It is a beautiful city, magnificent, and provides an excellent infrastructure for recreation, tourism, and leisure 365 days per year. The central beach extends over 6 km.
There are even several beaches in more remote places, where the Atlantic seacoast forests offsets the white sand beaches and crystal-clear water.
Extremely easy access to pristine beaches, such as the paradisiacal 'Pinho' provides great leisure opportunities.
This is a geographically privileged city located in one of the prime centers in Santa Catarina State. Besides the attractive natural wonders, there are excellent shopping options, diversified events, gastronomical variety, and an infinite number of pubs and nightclubs. So, as you can see, this is the seventh biggest tourist attraction in our country.

1. Cycling in Brazil
The sports in Brazil are getting great status, the soccer country, is the volleyball country too. And the cycling is finally taking a wonderful space.
Brazil has great natural places to practice many styles of cycling, mainly on South part of the country that has strong European influences. This one brought culture and tradition that helps also to develop new cyclists' talents.
Good examples are Luciano Pagliarini (road), Soelito Gohr (para cycling) and Murilo Fischer (road), who were greatly influenced by the important cyclists of Europe.
In Santa Catarina state we have many important cycling events: Tour de Santa Catarina- class 2.2 UCI, Volta a Santa Catarina em Mountain Bike, Escalada da Serra do Mar, all that in the UCI Calendar.
In 2005 and 2006 we had the privilege to host the editions of UCI MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CUP, the first time in the Latin America, and the CONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP ‘2006.
The 2005 edition of UCI MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CUP, was considerate the second best of the calendar (see the e-mail from UCI).

We believe these events had an international repercussion. They are very important, for getting new investitures in this area, developing new talents and helping people who practice this sport as a hobby.
We want to show other nations that Brazil isn't only known as a soccer country, but also a place where you may join a variety of sports.

3. Location and Transportation
Balneario Camboriu (BC) is a wonderful natural place, and has also a very good localization in the Itajaí Valley. This city is among big cities like Florianópolis (capital of state), Joinville and Curitiba. The access can be done mainly by BR-101 road, which has nowadays, good condition of traffic.
By plane the best air companies have non-stop flights from São Paulo (55 minutes to flight or 639 Km by car) to Navegantes Airport, 17 km far from the city. Another alternative is to land in Joinville (90 Km from BC), Florianópolis (80 Km from BC) or Curitiba (239 Km from BC) Airport, where the companies fly to other Brazilian cities and international places as well.
In Itajaí there is the biggest port of the state, 10 km far from Balneario Camboriu.
Close to Balneario Camboriu there are Tijucas, Canelinha and São João Batista - about 60 km - these cities are famous because of the shoes manufactures.
Blumenau, Brusque and Ilhota, cities known as textiles manufacture and close to the event too. Balneario Camboriu is 36 km far from Penha, where you can go to the Beto Carrero World, the biggest thematic park of Santa Catarina.
And also close, Joinville, known as the biggest city of Santa Catarina with a huge concentration of industries.
You may find many roads to arrive in Balneario Camboriu, like BR 282, BR 470, BR 116 and mainly BR 101, those with good structure and conservation. The local traffic has fast streets and avenues with easy access to the competition area. Distance is maximum 8 km.
4. Accommodation
The dynamics and growth of Balneario Camboriu affect the tourist activities, over the years; a huge tourism structure was done.
The quality of all services makes our visitors comfortable and satisfied.
Today, they have many hotels, with prices about US$ 50.00 that includes bed and breakfast. And it's possible to find many kinds of restaurants with great quality too.
All hotels and restaurants are about 6 km far from the place where the competitions will be developed.
You will have place to keep bicycles and equipment in the hotels. Some of them have place to do meetings and events for rent, it costs about US$ 130.00

5. Courses
5.1- Downhill
It will start 237 meters above the ocean, going down through a high technical level. About 1.410 meters down. It will have the following characteristics:
30% of wide track, 70% of narrow track, 40% of fast downhill section and 60% of slow technical downhill section.
There are no rivers through the course. The access to the start place, to cyclists and public, will be through Unipraias Park train; they will be adapted to take the bicycles.
5.2- Cross Country
The competition starts at Laranjeiras Beach that is in the ocean level. They will ride about 4.500 meters, with maximum variety of high of 100 meters through the whole circuit.
This circuit is 45% of acclivity, 30% of place area and 25% down. In the beginning, close to the start line, are 30% large roads and the rest 70% are runway.

Elisa Canepa- Ciao a tutti, sto bene ( anche se ora sono una settimana che ho febbre e raffreddore) e mi sto preparando alla nuova stagione con la mia mtb da enduro, lo scatto fisso e la mia bici da downhill.
